Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Products

Where do you source your matcha?

All our matcha is sourced from Japan. Our Signature Hinata Blend comes from Yame, and we have more matcha on the way from other regions too.

Each place has its own climate, which gives the matcha a unique flavour — we hope you enjoy exploring the differences as our collection grows.

Is your matcha ceremonial grade?

Yes. We use “first harvest” to highlight that our matcha is made from the earliest spring leaves, shade-grown, and milled from tencha — just like what’s often called ceremonial grade. “Ceremonial grade” is listed in the ingredients for clarity, but we focus on the quality and process behind each matcha.

What is the shelf-life of the matcha?

We recommend enjoying your matcha within 1–2 months after opening for the best flavour and freshness. How the matcha is stored can also affect the flavour — keeping it cool and properly sealed helps it stay vibrant longer.

Note: The best before date is also printed on the foil pouch.

How should I store the matcha?

Before opening the pouch:

Store it somewhere cool and dark — the fridge works well in Singapore’s weather. Before opening, let it come to room temperature so moisture doesn’t sneak in.

After opening the pouch:

Transfer your matcha to an airtight container and store it in the fridge. Before each use, let it come to room temperature to avoid moisture. Keep it away from strong smells — matcha is delicate and prefers a calm, quiet spot.

What happens if I don't sift and whisk my matcha?

Sifting and whisking help bring out the smooth texture and full flavor of matcha — it’s part of what makes the experience so special. Skipping these steps won’t ruin your tea, but you might notice a few clumps and a less creamy taste. It’s a small ritual that makes a big difference.

Why don't you offer your matcha powder in disposable tins?

Disposable tins can be hard to recycle, tricky to clean, and sometimes even cut your hand.

Our lightweight aluminium pouches keep your matcha fresh when it's unopened. Once opened, you can refill them into a canister — either your own or one of ours — for longer-term freshness and easy daily use.

It’s a small way to tread a little lighter, and to make your daily ritual feel more personal and thoughtful. 🍃

Can I recycle the paper box?

Yes— our outer box is made from responsibly sourced paper and is fully recyclable. Just flatten and place it in your paper recycling bin when you're ready.

Do you have any care tips for your tin canister?
  • To clean the canister, gently wipe the surface with slightly wet towel, followed by dry cloth. Be sure to dry out the surface completely so your can will not rust.

  • To keep your matcha fresh, you can store the canister in the fridge. Place the canister back in the fridge after each use, so that the moisture will not rust the tea canister from the temperature change.

  • If you start having a hard time opening the lids, you can roll the can on a flat surface for about 10 seconds, and this will bring the can back to it's original form.
